Leduc Firefighters 2013 Rooftop Campout Fundraiser for Muscular Dystrophy

For the third year in a row, the Leduc Firefighters are camping out on the roof of the Protective Services building, and holding a fundraiser for Muscular Dystrophy.
Nerds On Site had the pleasure of visiting the campers and delivering them some coffee, which was much appreciated on the chilly night. Kevin was one of many kind local citizens and companies to donate coffee and meals.
According to the City of Leduc\’s Fundraiser page:
\”Muscular dystrophy, a neuromuscular disorder, affects hundreds of Canadians each year. People living with a neuromuscular disorder may lose the ability to walk, speak and breathe. And for some people, it can be fatal. Currently, there is no cure for muscular dystrophy and we’re asking for your help to raise much-needed funds and awareness so we can hopefully report one day that a cure has been found.\”
6 firefighters are participating this year between February 4th to the 7th, where they will live atop the roof day and night in two tents, and spend their days by the campfire (fueled by propane), entertaining guests from the community who have stopped by to encourage them, and doing silly things on the live stream broadcast online 24 hours a day, along with a chalkboard of daily messages to viewers.
In fact, they are the only Muscular Dystrophy rooftop fundraiser in the Edmonton area to have a live stream, and the City of Leduc has done a great job sharing news of the event on Twitter and Facebook! Heck, even a few of the firefighters are on twitter! (@LFD_93, @DJxDK, and @RayArff66). You can also follow the @cityofleduc\’s twitter feed, or their Facebook page.
Care to donate online? Visit their donation page, and please encourage family, friends, and colleagues to do the same!
